HOW TO KILL A MOCKING-BIRD (HARPER LEE)

The book is about Atticus Finch, who appears as an unconventional hero due to his sense of morals, i.e., morality. The theme of morals is apparent throughout the whole novel, especially in relation to religion and perception of sin.

This book focuses upon the distinction of right and wrong, racial discrimination and how it has poisoned our society. Seen through the eyes of a young girl, Scout Finch, it is an innocent and untarnished tale about the Status of Black people in America post the World Wars. Above all, there was also the fact that the Northern part of USA abolished slavery and discrimination throughout America, but the same prevailed in Southern North America.

The first part deals with the trio of friends trying to get a recluse i.e., Boo Radley to come out of his home and try and live life as well. The second part deals with the actual mockingbird, or innocent person in this story, A black man charged with the rape of a white girl. Atticus, believing in Lincoln's dream of a united and unprejudiced America, takes up the case to defend the young man during the case. As the book progresses, we see that despite being proven innocent, Tom Robinson (The accused), is pronounced Guilty and is killed, trying to make a break for his freedom.

This is a truly beautiful and eye-opening book and I hope you all get a chance to read it and get inspired by it as well.
